Freshwater Bay Rotarian Nishi Galhenage recently took funds from our club with her to Sri Lanka, her country of origin, to assist a refuge for young abused girls, some of whom are pregnant and others who have already given birth.
Nishi provided us with an excellent presentation about the women’s shelters in Kandy, however, a problem occurred during the live stream causing only part of her presentation to be viewed remotely.
Our club has supported the Women’s Development Centre in Sri Lanka previously via a Rotary Foundation District Grant.
It is extremely worthy and Nishi informed all present on how well this project is managed and executed, with 100% protection for the girls who have been abused, some of whom are very young.
