On 7th June 2003 we had an international guest as our speaker: PP Buff Wright from the Rotary Club of Claremont, California.
Buff spoke on what got her into Rotary, and how in the lead up to her year as club project she decided to reach out to other Rotary Clubs in Claremont around the world – which included our club. With Di Collins receiving her email as the Secretary, a friendship was struck up that has endured, with them meeting up at Rotary International Conventions. Buff also informed us about the projects undertaken by her club.
Buff Wright has taken 30 magnifying microscopes with her back to the USA, to send to the Rotary Club of Goioerê in Brazil, along with US$150 to pay for the shipping. Our contact in Brazil, Gilson Croscato, has written the following message to Di Collins in response to this update:
It is with great joy that we received your message, because this year Rotary Imagine our clubs built this opened an opportunity for our children to have a better future perspective through education. We are very grateful for the willingness of your club to offer, in addition to the equipment, the funding for this wonderful microscope project to reach our children. We are starting the Rotary Year of Hope and in this sense, with yours, many children in our city will have the opportunity, thanks to the generosity of the companions of your club who break down barriers and care about bringing education and peace to the most needy.
