Meeting 25th May: Climate Lobby

Two volunteers from the Citizens’ Climate Lobby, Joyce Erceg, who came from a farming background, and Jeff Wilson, a retired engineer, gave a detailed overview of  the economics of carbon pollution.

The University of New South Wales Grand Challenges program produced this report a couple of years ago, written by economist Richard Holden and lawyer Rosalind Dixon.

The Australian Climate Dividend is a solution that bridges the left-right divide on climate policy. It is at once conservative and progressive and provides a workable solution that will appeal to all sides of the political spectrum. The key to this proposal is that it not only provides strong market-based incentives to reduce our carbon emissions, it addresses the economic well-being of low-income Australians.

The Citizens’ Climate Lobby is seeking businesses, faith leaders or influential people in the community who are willing to Endorse the Plan. The more endorsements they get the more MPs will be inclined to take notice of the idea when they visit them.
