Meeting 23rd Oct: Peace Fellow

With Rotary Foundation Peace Fellow Natasha Venables back in Perth until the end of October, we invited her to our meeting on 23rd October 2019 to talk about her time at the Rotary Center for International Studies at the International Christian University (ICU), Tokyo, Japan.

Visiting Rotarian PP Ian Allsop from the Rotary Club of Templestowe, Victoria, is pictured with Tash Venables and PP Di Collins.

Tash graduated with honours in Peace Studies and has recently been working on a research project in Zimbabwe for the cyclone which hit southern Africa in January.

Tash left us with some sage words:

“Education is the most powerful tool we can use to heal the world.”

“Peace is created within.”

Nelson Mandela

She also said that in the 1980s Zimbabwe invested heavily in education, creating a 90% literacy rate. This is now the main reason why Zimbabwe has not progressed into full scale war but remains relatively peaceful.
