Meeting 18th Jan: IIMC Volunteers

Our first guest speakers for 2023, at our meeting on January 18th, were Alex Armanios and Vaish Radhakrishnan. They spoke about our Rotary Australia World Community Service Project, the Institute for Indian Mother and Child (IIMC).

Alex Armanios & Vaish Radhakrishnan

This is an incredible project initiated and run by Dr. Sujit Brahmochary who worked with Mother Teresa. At her insistence he set up his own mission to help the poor though an extensive network of projects: educational, medical, microcredit, child sponsorship etc.

Alex is a junior doctor currently working in Mental Health at Fremantle Hospital. He developed a passion for global health during his many trips to Palestine to visit his family. Alex co-coordinated the University of Western Australia’s involvement in the IIMC project in 2022 alongside Tharani Sivakumaran, who unfortunately could not attend the meeting.

Vaish is a fourth year medical student from Singapore, studying at the University of Western Australia. She also participated in the IIMC program last year and helped manage its fundraising and social media aspects

Annually medical students from around the world volunteer at IIMC. Alex and Vaish are two from UWA who spent a month in Northern India in December 2022. There are currently 7 students from Curtin University volunteering there right now (January 2023).

Alex has been moved to sponsor a child through the IIMC. We have additional children seeking sponsorship on our IIMC page.
