Interplast is a Rotary project which sends teams of volunteer plastic and reconstructive surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses and allied health professionals to provide life-changing surgery and medical training in countries across the Asia Pacific region.
A pioneer of plastic and reconstructive surgery in Australia, Sir Benjamin Rank was instrumental in the establishment of Interplast in 1983, and served as a Board Director and President from 1985 to 2000.
Sir Benjamin Rank’s grandson, Sam Gray, helped establish the Sir Benjamin Rank Scholarship to support selected surgeons from the Asia Pacific region to visit Australia on short-term observational placements to develop and strengthen their area of expertise and, by extension, strengthen the surgical services in their home country. Sam was the speaker at this week’s meeting.
