At our weekly meeting of 25th September 2019, our member Dr. Elayne Ooi’s presented on her ‘Life and Times’, commencing as a child of the 70s in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Elayne went on to obtain a Government scholarship to study medicine in Adelaide. She eventually found her love to be in Urology in which she started up a private practice in WA (Swan Urology). She touched on the stress and work involved in attaining medical degrees, saying that after all the years of hard work one never knew if they would pass the exams, so there was no guarantee of a future despite the time, money and work involved in attempting to qualify in medicine.
Elayne is married to Jason, a dentist, and as a practising Urologist she has the challenge of balancing a family, work, and her love of music (she is an accomplished pianist) with her desire to contribute through philanthropic work.
Elayne has introduced a project to our club, called MARVEL, of working with young people and music in aged care facilities.
Learning more about our members through such presentations are always some of our most memorable programs. You can view her full presentation below.
