Vale PRID Ken Collins

It is with great sadness that we report that Past Rotary International Director Ken Collins lost his battle with cancer on Thursday 4th August 2022.

A Rotarian for 55 years, Ken lived and breathed Rotary. He joined the Rotary Club of Belmont on 1st April 1967. He was also active in the Thornlie, Kenwick, Mill Point and Nedlands Rotary Clubs before founding Freshwater Bay in 2008. He has served in a leadership capacity at every level of Rotary, including serving on the Rotary International Board of Directors and a Trustee of The Rotary Foundation.

More importantly for PRID Ken was the actual work that Rotary does of doing good in the world. With his vocation of a medical practitioner, he served as a Rotary volunteer overseas on numerous occasions, working in remote villages in third world countries and refugee camps in Hong Kong, as well as leading teams to assist with training. He also was heavily involved on the ground in the Polio Eradication effort, having been a polio survivor himself.

He is the only Rotarian worldwide to have *ever* received the “Most Exemplary Rotarian Internationally” award, back in 1991.

This week’s meeting will be a tribute to PRID Ken. In lieu of a guest speaker, we will enjoy fellowship and invite those who wish to share their memories of Ken to do so. Partners and guests are most welcome, and for anyone unable to join us in person who would like to join via Zoom to say a few words, please ask us for the link.
